“LUCK” Typography Animation

The goal of this project was to create an animation based around the definition of the word “luck.” My mind instantly went to the two most luck-based things: the lottery and slot machines. By limiting the use of color and external design elements, the power of kinetic typography shines through!

I chose a typeface that felt like a mixture between a lucky 777 slot machine and a scratch off ticket. To emulate the suspense and feeling of luck, the final letter of luck, k, wriggles around before settling into place. Then, the rewarding feedback of flashing lights and dollar signs signals that you are the lucky winner.

“The public is more familiar with bad design than good design. It is, in effect, conditioned to prefer bad design, because that is what it lives with. The new becomes threatening, the old reassuring.” — Paul Rand  ══════⊹⊱≼≽⊰⊹════════════⊹⊱≼≽⊰⊹════════════⊹⊱≼≽⊰⊹════════════⊹⊱≼≽⊰⊹══════
